Nissan Blue Coolant Equivalent

Would you recommend using any other fluids or sticking with Nissan coolant? What is aftermarket fluid suitable for my Nissan?

These are questions that almost every Nissan owner would have asked or thought about. This topic has been raised mostly due to specific considerations such as price, availability, ease of obtaining, and maybe other personal reasons.

This article will shed light on the Nissan Blue coolant equivalent topic with a list of the best products available out there. Let’s analyze to see if these alternatives will perform well in your Nissan or not?

OEM or Aftermarket?

Nissan Blue, as previously stated, has substitutes. This is specified in the recommended fluids and lubricants column of Nissan’s owner manual: “Pre-diluted Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or equivalent.”

In terms of performance, both OEM and aftermarket coolant operate equally well in your Nissan, so there isn’t much of a difference. However, OEM products are typically more expensive than aftermarket substitutes. The OEM will cost you nearly twice as much for the same grade coolant. As a result, people seek suitable replacements for the Nissan Blue coolant.

To answer the second question, what substitute is suitable for use?

Before now, coolants (ethylene glycol) had silicates and phosphates as additives. But this coolant was not compatible with aluminum engine parts as they react together when it gets wet. Fast forward to modern times, a modern formula was developed with Organic Acid Technology (OAT), and Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT). Both OAT and HOAT that are silicates free are safe for aluminum parts. If the aftermarket coolant has a similar modern formula, then it’s safe to use.

Warranty Void

A majority of OEMs provide a warranty on their products. When you switch to a non-OEM product, however, certain automakers may void your car’s warranty. Therefore, if your vehicle is under warranty, you should stick with OEM parts and accessories.

About Genuine Nissan Blue Coolant

Nissan is the manufacturer of this Blue long-life antifreeze/coolant. This OE lubricant features the same characteristic blue, high-grade factory fill that is found in new Nissan automobiles. It is free of amines and silicates, which can affect the seals on water pumps. Borate, which can induce aluminum corrosion and pitting, is likewise absent.

The coolant has been subjected to performance and durability testing. Nissan Blue coolant should be changed every 5 years or 120,000 km (75,000 miles). It offers long-term protection for aluminum, cast iron, and all other engine components. Nissan Motors recommends it. The only complaint from users is the high cost of the blue long-life coolant.

Nissan Blue is available in two different forms: concentrate and prediluted with part numbers: ‎999MP-L25500P and ‎999MP-L255QTP, respectively.

However, many users complain that the concentrate bottle is a bit confusing. Even though it is concentrated, the label on the jug states that “Do not add water.” Well, I don’t understand the purpose of the manufacturer. The prediluted Nissan Blue Coolant, on the other hand, is pre-mixed, so you don’t have to mix it with distilled water. And that’s why the product is more popular with Nissan owners.

Nissan Green Coolant

If you want to use OEM coolant at a lower price, this OEM green coolant is for your choice. Let’s analyze to see the pros and cons of the fluid.

Genuine Nissan Fluid 999MP-AF000P Green L248SP Engine Coolant

Genuine Nissan Green Coolant

Nissan Green coolant is an ethylene glycol-based fluid that is completely compatible with Nissan Blue. The product contains no amines or silicates, which may cause water pump seals to fail. There are no borates in this product, which can cause metal corrosion. Moreover, the lubricant also helps protect aluminum, cast iron, and all other engine components for a long time.

Unlike the Nissan Blue Longlife coolant, which has a longer service interval and can go longer, the green coolant has a shorter service interval. Since it is designed as a long-life fluid, the changing interval will be shorter. Also, some customers may be concerned about removing the green to replace it with new blue. However, there is nothing wrong with them combining. If you don’t get all the green coolants out before switching to blue, the combination will have the same life as the green coolant (4 years or 96,000 km/60,000 miles).

This Genuine Green coolant comes in concentrate form only, so you must mix it with distilled water (the common ratio is 50/50). Otherwise, the system will not be able to adequately transfer heat.

PEAK Blue Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant for Asian Vehicles

Peak Blue Concentrate Coolant is specially formulated with Phosphate-enhanced Organic Acid Technology (POAT) that is borate, nitrite, silicate, and amine-free. Both pre-diluted and concentrated versions are available. Topping up the system with the 50/50 Prediluted version is a good idea. To do a full flush or top-off, use the concentrate. It is fully compatible with other extended life antifreeze/coolants and suitable for flushing, filling, or topping off your cooling system.

All cooling system components are protected from rust and corrosion with this advanced formulation. Peak also claims that this coolant will give protection for up to 150,000 miles (5 years) of service life. Well, the number is quite impressive. But it’s always a good idea to replace your coolant a little sooner than the recommended time for preventative maintenance.

More than that, the lubricant complies with Asian vehicle technology and color specifications. It is designed for Nissan vehicles that require a BLUE Phosphate-enhanced Organic Acid Technology (POAT) formula. This product is available in 2 forms for your choice: concentrate and prediluted. A Concentrated version can help you save some bucks when mixing with distilled water.

CAUTION: DO NOT mix or top-off two different coolants. This might cause damage to your cooling system. If you want to switch to a new coolant brand, flush the old lubricant that already remained in the system and fill it with a new type.

Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue Silicate and Borate Free

Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue Silicate and Borate Free Prediluted Coolant

Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue Prediluted Coolant

Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue Silicate and Borate Free features Hybrid Organic Acid Technology. Valvoline is the manufacturer of this Zerex Asian Vehicle. Its special formula aids in the prevention of deposits that can be harmful.

It contains phosphate additives and is designed to replace the original fluid. Zerex Antifreeze/Coolant provides protection against rust, corrosion, freezing, and boilovers. This fluid is completely compatible with the OEM and also looks exactly like it.

The product is 50/50 prediluted, so it doesn’t need to be mixed. It should be used for top-offs or after a flush.

The fluid is a cheaper aftermarket equivalent and an OEM replacement coolant. It comes in red and blue formulations to better suit the needs of your Asian vehicle. Like Peak, Valvoline guarantee that the product can protect your cooling system for 5 years or 150,000 miles. However, It is preferable to change the coolant on a more regular basis for preventative maintenance.

However, the Zerex Blue Coolant just comes in a prediluted version, this may cost you more than concentrate products and you also have no choice in the mix ratio with distilled water.

CAUTION: DO NOT mix or top-off two different coolants. This might cause damage to your cooling system. If you want to switch to a new coolant brand, flush the old lubricant that already remained in the system and fill it with a new type.

Final Verdict

There are a plethora of Nissan Blue replacements on the market. To be safe, choose a coolant with modern technology based on OAT/HOAT technology.

To conclude, if you want to use cheaper OEM fluid, don’t hesitate to go for Nissan Green. It is completely compatible with Nissan Blue. If you’re still looking to save more money, I recommend to go with the Peak Blue Coolant. Though it is an aftermarket alternative, it brings great performance to your Nissan.
