Honda Type 2, Subaru Super Long Life, and Pentofrost A3 are considered identical or premium-quality alternatives to Nissan’s Blue Coolant. Common retail brands like Zerex Asian Blue, Peak OET Asian Blue, Prestone Asian Blue (also sold as Prestone Max Blue), and Supertech Asian Blue are also widely recommended.
The general rule is: any “Asian Vehicle” blue coolant that is non-silicate and formulated for Nissan or Infiniti will do the job.
Recommended Alternatives to Nissan Blue Coolant
Below are aftermarket options that are formulated to closely meet the performance of the OEM Nissan Blue coolant.
Peak OET Antifreeze + Coolant for Asian Vehicles – Blue

PEAK OET Blue Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant for Asian Vehicles
Peak OET Asian Blue is an aftermarket-equivalent coolant compatible with Nissan’s blue Long Life Coolant (LLC) requirement. It uses phosphate-enhanced organic acid technology (POAT), the same corrosion inhibitor approach used at the factory. It’s free of silicate, nitrite, borate, and amines.
Quick Specs
- Type: POAT (Phosphate-enhanced OAT)
- Mix options: 50/50 prediluted or concentrate
- Service life: Up to 150,000 miles / 5 years (with full flush)
- Freeze protection (50/50): Down to -34°F (-36°C)
- Boil protection (50/50): Up to 265°F (129°C)
- Standards met: ASTM D3306, JIS K2234
If you want to skip the dealership price without compromising on coolant chemistry, this is a solid option. The POAT formula matches what Nissan specifies for 2009 and newer models.
This is for Nissan owners who want a verified aftermarket alternative that meets OEM specs.
Also compatible with:
- Acura: 1990 and up
- Honda: 1990 and up (owners should also match Honda ATF-DW1 equivalents for complete system compatibility)
- Infiniti: 2009 and up
- Mitsubishi: select models 2001 and up
- Subaru: 2009 and up
- Suzuki: 2010 and up
Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue Antifreeze/Coolant

Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue Silicate and Borate Free Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant
Zerex Asian Vehicle Blue is an aftermarket-equivalent coolant compatible with Nissan’s blue Long Life Coolant (LLC) requirement. It uses a patented hybrid organic acid technology (HOAT) formula with phosphate-based inhibitors. It contains no silicates, borates, nitrites, or amines.
Quick specs
- Type: HOAT (Phosphate-enhanced OAT)
- Mix options: 50/50 prediluted or concentrate
- Service life: Up to 150,000 miles / 5 years
- Freeze protection (50/50): Down to -34°F (-36°C)
- Boil protection (50/50): Up to 265°F (128°C)
- Standards met: ASTM D3306, ASTM D4985, JIS K2234-1994
Using the wrong coolant chemistry corrodes your engine from the inside out. Zerex’s HOAT formula is specifically built for Asian vehicle cooling systems that require phosphate protection, which silicate-based coolants don’t provide.
This is for Nissan and Infiniti owners who want a widely available, well-documented aftermarket option that meets OEM specs.
Also compatible with:
- Honda/Acura
- Toyota/Scion/Lexus (it is helpful to review Toyota pink coolant alternatives for newer models)
- Mazda
- Subaru
- Suzuki
- Mitsubishi (ES 64-217)
- Hyundai/Kia (MS591-08)
- Isuzu, Daihatsu, Dae Woo

Prestone MAX Antifreeze + Coolant, Asian Blue

Prestone MAX Asian Vehicles Blue Antifreeze and Coolant
Prestone MAX Asian Blue is an aftermarket-equivalent coolant compatible with Nissan and Infiniti Long Life Coolant (LLC) for 2009 and newer vehicles. It uses an Advanced Original Equipment Technology (OET) formula and comes ready to use as a 50/50 premix.
Quick Specs
- Type: Advanced OET (phosphate-based, blue)
- Mix ratio: 50/50 premixed
- Service life: Up to 350,000 miles / 15+ years
The standout here is service life. At 350,000 miles, Prestone MAX claims the longest fluid life of any product in this category. It can also top off or fully replace any existing blue coolant in compatible vehicles.
Note: Please do periodic checks on your coolant’s quality despite the claimed service life.
Also compatible with:
- Honda (all years)
- Acura (all years)
- Subaru 2009 and newer
- Infiniti 2009 and newer

Green vs. Blue: Mixing and Compatibility
Nissan switched from green to blue coolant around 2009. The two are backwards compatible, but mixing them has consequences you need to understand before topping off.
If you add green coolant to a system that currently uses blue, the service life of the fluid drops to that of the green coolant, roughly 60,000 miles or 4 years. The blue’s long-life additives are essentially neutralized.
Going the other direction is less of a problem. Adding blue to a system that already contains green does not shorten the existing fluid’s lifespan.
If you want to switch from green to blue entirely, perform a complete flush with distilled water first. This removes the old green coolant before you refill with blue.
Some dealership technicians advise against switching on a car that has been running green for years, while others say it is perfectly fine as long as the flush is thorough. There is no consensus, so a complete flush is the safer approach.
Service Intervals for Nissan Blue Coolant
The first service interval for Nissan Blue Long Life coolant is 105,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first. After that initial flush, the interval drops to every 50,000 miles or 5 years.
Most blue coolant is sold as a pre-mixed 50/50 solution. Do not add water to it. Diluting it throws off the protective ratio the formula is designed around.
If your reservoir is low and you do not have blue coolant available, a small amount of distilled water is acceptable as a temporary top-off. Avoid universal coolants and tap water entirely, as both can contaminate the long-life additives.
About the OEM Nissan Blue Product

Genuine Nissan Fluid 999MP-L25500P Blue Long Life Antifreeze
Nissan’s OEM blue coolant (part number 999MP-L25500P) is the factory-fill fluid used in Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. It is a non-silicate, Asian Blue formulation that comes premixed 50/50 with distilled water. Do not add water to it.
The first change interval is 105,000 miles or 7 years. After that, Nissan recommends changing it every 50,000 miles or 5 years.
Some Nissan service bulletins push that first interval to 135,000 miles or 10 years, while others take a more conservative approach at 60,000 miles or 4 years. When in doubt, your owner’s manual is the authoritative source.
Closing Notes
Coolant is no longer just a freeze-and-flush maintenance item. In modern Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, getting the chemistry right matters.
P-OAT formulations are specifically built to handle the thermal demands of turbocharged engines and hybrid powertrains. In these systems, temperature swings are more extreme and the cost of getting it wrong is higher.
Electrified models like the Nissan Ariya raise the stakes further. These systems require coolant that maintains electrical safety while keeping battery and engine temps in check. A fluid that worked fine in a 2005 Sentra may not be adequate here.
Treat coolant as a precision fluid, not a commodity. Use what your vehicle specifies, change it on schedule, and do not mix chemistries. That approach costs very little and protects a lot.
While maintaining your cooling system, it is also a good practice to identify Nissan Matic transmission fluid requirements to keep your gearbox running smoothly.
