Jeep recommends that the oil should meet the following Chrysler specifications: MS6395 or MS-13340.

It must also meet the API SN Plus requirements.

Synthetic Or Conventional

For your 2007-2012 Jeep Wrangler, the best oil type you can use for the 3.8L engine is a 5W-20.

2004 – 2006 Jeep Wrangler Oil Type

According to the owner’s manual, the 2.4L engine runs on 5W-30 below 100℉ and 10W-30 above 0℉. Similarly, the 4.0L engine uses 5W-30 below 32℉ and 10W-30 above 0℉. Keep in mind to change your oil and filter every 6,000 miles or 6 months (whichever comes first).

If you frequently drive in stop-and-go traffic or cold weather, it’s best to use synthetic oil in your car. Synthetic oil maintains its viscosity better than conventional oil so that it can protect your engine better in extreme conditions.

2001 – 2003 Jeep Wrangler Oil Type

It is recommended to use 5W-30 for all engines operating below 32℉ and 10W-30 above 0℉. Jeep advises replacing engine oil every 7,500 miles in the Wrangler. If you do a lot of off-roading or travel long distances in stop-and-go traffic, you should maintain this more frequently. SAE 10W-30 is a thinner oil type than that found in modern cars. 1990 – 2000 Jeep Wrangler Oil Type

1987 – 1989 Jeep Wrangler Oil Type

2016 – 2017 Jeep Wrangler Oil Capacity

All Jeep Wrangler engines from 2016-to 2017 can take 5.9 quarts of oil with a new oil filter. 

2012 – 2015 Jeep Wrangler Oil Capacity

Jeep Wrangler from 2012 to 2015 takes 6 quarts, except for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler, which takes 5.9 quarts. Jeep recommends that you replace your oil filter. 

2007 – 2011 Jeep Wrangler Oil Capacity

All Jeep Wrangler engines from 2007 to 2011 require 6 quarts of oil. Jeep advises changing your filter as well. 

2003 – 2010 Jeep Wrangler Oil Capacity

Except for the 2006 2.4L engine, which holds 5 quarts of oil, all 2.4L engines from 2003 to 2010 have an oil capacity of 4 quarts (with a new oil filter change). Besides, Jeep Wrangler with a 4.0L engine can hold about 6 quarts of oil with a filter. 

1991 – 2002 Jeep Wrangler Oil Capacity

Vehicles with a 2.5L engine can hold 4 quarts of oil. Those with a 4.0L engine can carry around 6 quarts of oil. 

1987 – 1990 Jeep Wrangler Oil Capacity

Jeep Wranglers with 4.2L engines from 1987 to 1990 have a 6 quarts oil capacity. Those with a 2.5L engine hold 4 quarts of oil. However, there are a few exceptions, such as the 1989 4.2L engine, which has a capacity of 5.8 quarts. And the 1988 2.5L engine, which holds 4.5 quarts. You should install a new filter too.
