Toyota Pink Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) Equivalents

Toyota Pink coolant, officially called Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC), is the factory fill for most Toyota vehicles built from 2004 forward. This includes models like the 2005 Solara, 2006 Camry, 2005 RAV4, 2018 Highlander, and various Sienna, Tacoma, and Lexus RX350 models.

The factory fill is rated for 10 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km in some markets). After that initial change, you’re looking at replacements every 5 years or 50,000 to 60,000 miles. It’s much longer-lasting compared to Red coolant, which needs service every 2 years or 30,000 miles.

OEM Toyota Super Long Life Coolant

The base for Toyota Pink coolant (Super Long Life Coolant, or SLLC) is ethylene glycol, which provides the antifreeze properties. Diethylene glycol is added for thermal stability. Water makes up the other half of the 50/50 pre-mix.

The key differentiator is sebacic acid. This organic acid inhibitor is what sets Pink apart from the older Red formula. It also contains potassium hydroxide that acts as a pH buffer to keep the coolant stable.

Toyota Pink is formulated to be free of silicates, amines, nitrites, and borates. Many universal coolants include these additives, but Toyota’s formula specifically excludes them.

Toyota only sells this as a 50/50 pre-mixed formula under part number 00272-SLLC2. There’s no concentrate option. This ensures the coolant is mixed with distilled or de-ionized water, which protects the long-life additives from mineral contamination that could reduce their effectiveness.

Pink coolant is classified as Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT) in the U.S. market. Some technical sources call it Phosphated Organic Acid Technology (POAT) because it uses phosphates instead of silicates to protect aluminum components and provide rapid corrosion protection.

Pink coolant is backwards compatible with Toyota Red Long Life Coolant. You can mix them without immediate problems, though doing so compromises the extended service interval that Pink provides.

Choosing an equivalent isn’t about matching the color on the bottle; it’s about matching the chemistry in the engine. “Pink” signals different things depending on the manufacturer. European pink coolants and heavy-duty pink formulations use entirely different inhibitor packages that can cause silicate drop-out or phosphate-starved corrosion in a Toyota system.

If you’re skipping the dealership, stick to a phosphate-enhanced OAT (P-OAT) formula like AISIN, PEAK OEM, or equivalent products specifically labeled for Toyota/Lexus applications. These formulas keep your water pump seals lubricated and your radiator channels clear.

One final tip: regardless of which brand you choose, always check your coolant level when the engine is cold. If you’re consistently topping it off, you don’t have a coolant problem. You probably have a leak that no amount of “Super Long Life” fluid can fix.
